In keeping with your mission to take better care of yourself, don't underestimate the value of vacations. People benefit from short breaks as well as longer trips away from everyday life. It does not need to be a costly family event. It could be as short as a day trip to the coast or river, a spontaneous picnic at Mt. Hood, or a stroll along the waterfront. Vacations are important to our mental health for many reasons. We benefit from the change of pace, new scenery, and reduced stress. The mindset of vacation allows us to slow down and experience the moment, appreciate the flowers and butterflies, reconnect with our creative side, become inspired, brainstorm ideas or reconnect in our significant relationships. Solo vacations can be equally beneficial if you prefer solitude. Take a hike or stroll through the Japanese gardens on your own. Ponder. As summer approaches make a commitment to spend some leisurely days on vacation, (even in your own backyard, phone and media turned off, to do list put far away...)
So, go ahead and utilize your employers vacation, sick or mental health time to rejuvenate yourself this summer! Enjoy!
